Morgan State’s early-season struggles continued Tuesday night as the Bears fell 71–66 to Drexel, slipping to 1–6 on the season.
Morgan State scored the first basket, but Drexel quickly took control and held the lead for the remainder of the game.
The Dragons led by as many as 15 points after Dillon Tingler hit a pair of free throws to push the lead to 21-6 with 9:37 remaining in the first half.
Drexel opened the second half on a 13–4 run, but the Bears answered with a 14–3 burst of their own to cut the deficit to three with 9:33 left.
Even with the momentum swing, Morgan State couldn’t complete the comeback as Drexel knocked down key free throws to secure the win.
Here are five key takeaways from Tuesday night:
- The Dragons controlled the board all night, out rebounding the Bears 41-27, though Morgan State held a 14–7 edge on the offensive glass.
- The Bears shot 43 percent from the field overall (24-of-55), but only shot 2-of-13 from behind the arc.
- Drexel held the lead for 38:22 of the game.
- The Bears are now 1–3 at home. While they’ve kept all three losses close, they’ve struggled to finish down the stretch.
- After the game, head coach Kevin Broadus stated, “We’re playing good basketball, but we need to play good basketball for 40 minutes instead of 30 minutes.”
Morgan State will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 6 against Longwood University at Hill Field House at 4 p.m.
