A game-high 24 points from Virginia’s Kymora Johnson and 18 from Paris Clark powered the Cavaliers to an 86-36 win over Morgan State in both teams’ season opener Tuesday at John Paul Jones Arena.
The Lady Bears were led by senior guard Gabrielle Johnson, who shot 3-for-4 from three-point range and finished with nine points. Kailyn Nash added eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Virginia controlled the game from the start, holding Morgan State scoreless until the final five minutes of the first quarter. The Cavaliers out rebounded the Lady Bears 58-27 and recorded 12 blocks.
Morgan State struggled offensively, shooting 12-for-56 (21.4%) from the field and 4-for-18 (22.2%) from three-point range.
The Lady Bears trailed 53-17 at halftime and 73-30 after three quarters.
Morgan State will host Stetson University for its home opener Sunday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. at Hill Field House.
