Thalya Baptiste is a sophomore political science major at Morgan State University. She came to Morgan from St. Margaret’s School, a private school in Tappahannock, Virginia. Baptiste is apart of 3 other organizations on campus, in addition to the Spokesman. After college, she plans to create mentorship programs to work with Black youth in underprivileged communities.

These additional safety measures come after years of community safety issues and follow last year’s homecoming where a student was shot on campus during last year’s homecoming festivities at the Montebello Complex.  “Our goal is to make sure that everyone that attends Morgans homecoming does two things, one, that theyre safe and two, that they have a great time,” said Lance Hatcher, chief of police for the Morgan State University Police Department.
