As the 2025-26 academic year semester comes to an end, The Spokesman sat down with Morgan State University President David K. Wilson for an interview centered on questions submitted directly by students.
The conversation, conducted in late April by editor-in-chief Aleisha Robinson and managing editor Kimora Wong-Sing, addressed key concerns across campus, including housing, transportation, student services, and communication between students and university offices. Wilson also discussed long-term institutional goals, including Morgan’s push toward top-tier research status and plans for a future public medical school.
Students raised ongoing concerns about housing, particularly the university’s reliance on leased and public-private partnership models. Wilson explained that these arrangements allow the university to expand housing capacity without placing the full financial burden on students, while also noting broader structural challenges tied to state funding and historical development patterns.
The interview also touched on student activism, campus responsiveness following the COVID-19 pandemic, and the financial structure of the university, with Wilson emphasizing that tuition covers only a portion of Morgan’s operating costs.
