Twenty six members of Morgan State University’s choir will perform the national anthem before the game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday.
The game between Baltimore and Kansas City is the American Football Conference (AFC) championship and its winner will move on to compete in Super Bowl 58, which is scheduled on Feb. 11.
A team representative reached out to Morgan’s choir and requested they perform should the Ravens defeat the Houston Texans — which they did 34-10.
Morgan choir director Eric Conway said the choir has performed for the Ravens several times before this but this will be their first nationally televised performance.
“We’re so excited. You just can’t imagine how much we’re looking forward to sharing our music with the world,” said Conway, the chair of Morgan’s fine and performing arts department. “We have choir members from Nigeria whose families will be able to tune in … to hear their family member sing with us during the national anthem.”
The choir has not only performed for Ravens games, but has also sung before Orioles contests. Sunday’s game will be played before a live audience of more than 70,000 in M&T Bank Stadium and tens of millions of viewers at home.
The game will air on CBS (locally on WJZ-13) with kickoff scheduled for 3pm.

I listened – here in Hawaii – over and over. It was beautiful – I loved the choral version. And that fancy Finish with all those voices coming through so strong at the end. Black Lives Matter Image 2024.

The magnificent performance by your Morgan State University Choir was a brilliant representation of what should be every presentation of the Nation Anthem. It’s respectful and majestic lyrics performed by your students, spread across the arena and indeed our country with profound patriotism and a deep sense of honor for our flag and our United States of America.
May you be endlessly blessed by God for what you have done today for our precious and treasured Democracy.

I was so, so happy to hear a very beautiful rendering of our National Anthem. It doesn’t happen often. I don’t watch football–my partner does–so I heard the voices from another room and was drawn to the TV to watch and listen. The National Anthem is beautiful and powerful. Thank you Morgan State singers and director for your uplifting performance. I am so very appreciative.
