“The Maze Runner” sprinted to first place among all other premiers in its first weekend by generating $32.5 million in sales.
Dylan O’Brien (MTV’s “Teen Wolf) plays Thomas, a 16-year-old who wakes up in the maze, with no memory of his past in the is an action-filled sci-fi thriller. Will Poulter (“We’re the Millers”) stars as Gally, Thomas’ immediate enemy.
The film is set in a grassland area called The Glade. which is where all of the “gladers” arrive after being deported by a mysterious organization known as W.C.K.D. The only way out of the glades and back to the lives that its occupants once had is the maze, an ever-changing death trap filled Grievers, giant-spider like creatures that lurk inside of the maze waiting to devour any form of life that trespasses. Once Thomas and the others are inside of the maze there is nothing but suspense that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Many enter the maze, but few return and no one gets to the other side.
The film, although comparable to other trilogies such as “Divergent” and “The Hunger Games”, does not offer a recycled or familiar storyline. The action starts quickly, without the build up and suspense offered in similar films, a great upside. The story is also well organized, making it easy for viewers who haven’t read the book to be just as involved as those who have and keeps movie-goers attention throughout the whole movie.
Overall, the movie was well written and directed. It is worth seeing if you like movies like” The Hunger Games” or any movie with a lot of action and suspense.
