Hold all rumors and hearsay, I Love Morgan Week is still taking place!
Anthony Lampkin, Umoja Council Director, confirms that the week will kick off on April 20, 2014 and end on April 26, 2014.
The Umoja Council Director and a committee are in charge of creating the week-long event to excite and energize the 7000-plus students who attend Morgan State University.
The I Love Morgan Week tradition began back in the 70’s as a way to restore love and pride in the university. I Love Morgan Week is part of the Student Government Association and is held during the last week of April every year.
Kyra Harvey, who is associated with the SGA at Morgan State said, “I’m very anxious for I Love Morgan Week. I have faith that our Umoja Council will give us students what we need to enjoy ourselves on a week where we embrace our Morgan pride and love.”
The majority of students on campus seem to be ecstatic about I Love Morgan Week.
Stephanie Etienne, a student at Morgan State said, “I am very excited for I Love Morgan Week. This is my second one and I cannot wait to see what’s in store.”
Some students are hoping for a concert. However, Umoja Council secretary Schemika Clement said, “Expect newer and better things, it’s just going to be different.”
Past I Love Morgan Weeks have included concerts, talent shows, hypnotists, the annual “Battlegrounds” step show, DJ competitions, vendors and carnival games. Every year I Love Morgan Week brings new events to campus for students to participate in.
