October 7, 2021
Morgan State’s volleyball team (3-14) will try to improve their conference record to 2-2 this Friday night when they face Howard University (5-10) at 6 p.m. in Hill Field House.
The Lady Bears dropped their last match 3-0 to Coppin State on Oct. 1.
Morgan freshman outside hitter Madison Grace had 17 kills on 37 total attacks with four errors.
On Oct. 1, Howard defeated Norfolk State 3-0 in Burr Gymnasium in Washington, D.C.
Howard freshman outside hitter Bria Woodard accumulated 12 kills on 27 total attacks with just one error in her team’s victory.
Here are five things to look forward to ahead of Friday’s match.
Will Madison Grace have another dominant performance?
While Morgan’s volleyball team’s season has been marred with losses, one bright spot for them has been the play of Grace.
She has been named MEAC Volleyball Rookie of the Week three times this season and is averaging over 11 kills per match.
Morgan needs to limit their errors
Morgan is averaging 15.33 errors over their last three matches.
If they want a chance to beat Howard, they will need to cut down their errors.
Morgan needs to slow down Woodard twins
Two standout Howard players are six-foot-three twins Bria and Cimone Woodard. The two combined for 18 kills and three blocks in their last match against Norfolk State.
Morgan needs to close out sets strong
While Morgan was shutout 3-0 by Coppin, they only lost two of their sets by three or fewer points. They lost their first set to Coppin 25-22 and their third 27-25.
Finishing their sets with strong performances will go a long way towards helping the Lady Bears earn a win Friday night.
How many assists will Trinity Carruthers accumulate Friday night?
Morgan freshman setter Trinity Carruthers accumulated a team-high 33 assists against Coppin.
Her season-high for assists in a match is 36 which she accumulated on Sept. 26 against South Carolina State.
