Following the death of a Morgan State student, Morgan State president released a list of new efforts to improve campus safety in the Morgan community.

A detailed email from president David Wilson on Friday evening highlighted new security measures in Morgan View, where junior Gerald Williams died from stab wounds during an altercation on Feb. 1.

Those plans included the construction of a guard booth at the entrance of the complex to control traffic to and from. According to Wilson, “there will be a temporary structure that will be on the property starting February 18” as they work on building a permanent booth.

Morgan View has also hired three more security officers and will implement heightened dusk-to-dawn security during the week and 24/7 security on the weekends.

Also, plans for increased security in the Rawlings, Thurgood Marshall and Blount residence halls, including the academic quad were implemented.

“As you can see, the University is moving rapidly to make additional investments in personal and in systems to increasingly elevate the safety of our community,” Wilson said.
