Morgan State University announced on Wednesday evening that Tyrone Wheatley will serve as its new football head coach.
The 2018 football season concluded with the interim head football coach, but Wheatley will begin his position effective Feb. 21.
“We are thrilled to bring a person and football coach of Tyrone Wheatley’s caliber to Morgan State,” said athletic director of Edward Scott.
“Tyrone is an outstanding recruiter and understands the game of football at every level, both as a player and a coach. We are confident Tyrone can build broad support and engagement in our program while continuing to advance our football program in the classroom and on the playing field,” he added.
Wheatley previously served as the running back coach for the National Football League’s (NFL) Jacksonville Jaguars. He also worked as the running back coach for both the NFL’s Buffalo Bills (2013-2014) and Syracuse University (2010-2012).
