The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference awarded two Morgan State Men’s basketball standouts. In an announcement Thursday, forward Phillip Carr was named Preseason Player of the Year and guard Tiwian Kendley was named to the Preseason All-MEAC First Team.
Carr, a Brooklyn, New York native, led the Bears in rebounding, and was second on the team in scoring last season. Carr becomes the first Bear to be named the MEAC Preseason Player of the Year since former Morgan standouts Kevin Thompson (2010) and Reggie Holmes received it (2009).
Carr made the All-MEAC First-Team for the first time and was joined by teammate Kendley, who was the MEAC’s leading scorer after averaging 21.0 points per game last season. The preseason poll and all-conference team selections are voted on by the MEAC head men’s basketball coaches and sports information directors.
The Bears received 13 of 26 first-place votes to give them the number one spot in the MEAC preseason polls.
The 2017-18 season tips off Nov.10 when the Bears visit Binghamton University. The conference schedule gets underway on Jan. 3 when the Bears host University of Maryland-Eastern Shore.
