Veteran broadcast journalist, Roland S. Martin will be the commencement speaker for Morgan State University’s 2016 winter graduation ceremony.
Nearly 400 members of the graduating class will be in attendance as Martin addresses them, kicking off one of the three commencement ceremonies celebrating MSU’s sesquicentennial anniversary.
According to the university’s newsroom page, campus president David Wilson announced Friday that Martin will be the commencement speaker. Martin, host and managing editor of the daily news program NewsOneNow on TVOne, is an advocate for the African-American community. Author and columnist, Martin also works on the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show, with daily segments he does on newsworthy topics.
The commencement is also special because the ceremony will recognize fallen MSU student Dmitri Clemons, who died three months ago in an accident on campus while working out. Clemons was a civil engineering major who met his requirements to graduate and his mother will be in attendance to receive his degree. The 2016 winter commencement will be held Friday, Dec.16 in the Talmadge Hill Field House.
