After a two-game winning streak, the Morgan State University Lady Bears lost their MEAC conference matchup against the Howard Bison Thursday Evening, 3-0
“We could’ve played harder, definitely could’ve taken the W,” said junior Keana Browne.
The Bison decisively won the first set with a score of 25-12 due to a wide of array of Lady Bear errors. Those same errors held the Lady Bears back as Howard won the second set with a score of 25-11.
Despite the scores, the first two sets were very competitive from both sides. Junior Keana Browne thinks that the Lady Bears “came back with the mindset to beat this team [Howard]” as the third set started.
After multiple lead changes in the third set, the Howard Bison pulled away to win the set by a score of 25-18.
“Some of the mistakes we were making were uncharacteristic of Morgan Volleyball,” said head volleyball coach Romana Riley-Bozier in reference to the final set. “[The Lady Bears] did not look like were in any type of rhythm whatsoever,” she added.
After the three game home stretch, freshman Roi Wallace is “excited to get back on the road to show what we have”. The Lady Bears will start the road portion of their MEAC schedule next week.
Riley-Bozier understands that “sometimes it’s harder to play at home for some people than being away”. “[I want us] deal with teams that are in front of us,” said Riley-Bozier in reference to the Lady Bear’s next game.
The Lady Bears (2-15, 2-1 MEAC) will next play next week on the road next Thursday against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore at 7p.m.
