MEMPHIS—Federal funds totaling more than $800,000 have been awarded to help address the youth gang violence that the city saw over the summer. So far this year 3,100 juveniles have been arrested and 2,000 have been victims of crime and, according to a report on WREG –TV, many young people do not feel safe.
“As we have recently witnessed, more and more must be done to address and prevent youth violence in Memphis and to keep our community safe,” U. S. Rep. Steve Cohen said in announcing the federal grants. “This funding will be a valuable asset as we work to address the underlying causes of youth violence and prevent bad behavior before it becomes a bigger problem.” (Tennessee Tribune)
