At approximately 1:35 a.m. on September 17, residents in building 1540 at Morganview were awoken by the blaring sound of a fire alarm. Three fire trucks arrived within 15 minutes of the initial alarm. The fire was sited by Morganview staff as a bag on fire in the elevator, which caused smoke and a burning smell on all floors. Many residents ignored the alarm, opting to stand in the halls rather than evacuate the building. About 100 students gathered by the side door of the building, coming out in small groups. No further information is known at this time.
