Morgan State’s volleyball team has had strong performances in the MEAC as they currently sit at 5-2 in conference play, with two starters earning weekly honors.
Freshman setter Isabelle Brown was named the MEAC Setter of the Week for the second time this season and freshman libero Tameary Wardlaw earned MEAC Defensive Player of the Week — her first collegiate honor.
“It’s a great start for us going 5–2, just trying to prove ourselves in the totem pole,” said head coach Xiomara Ortiz. “Now we’re just making sure we can secure this spot.”
After falling 3-1 to crosstown rival Coppin State, the Lady Bears bounced back with a sweep over defending conference champions Delaware State.
“It definitely gives us a confidence boost because we’ve been putting in the work,” Wardlaw said. “It feels good to finally see it pay off.”
The team’s eight wins are already their most since the 2023 season, when they also finished with eight.
Their five MEAC victories are the most since 2019, when Morgan went 10–5 and reached the conference title match.
“I love that we’ve been able to establish ourselves,” Ortiz said. “It’s some of the highest hitting percentages we’ve seen over the course of the program. We just want to keep building on those milestones.”
Morgan State will travel to Norfolk State for their next MEAC matchup today at 6 p.m. Next they’ll return home to host Howard University on Sunday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m.
