Morgan State University announced extensions to several academic deadlines, including the posting of midterm grades after a global Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage Monday disrupted access to Canvas, the system used for grading and course management.
Midterm grades are now due Friday at 11:59 p.m. The original date for grades to be posted was Tuesday at 5 p.m. In addition, students have been granted a one-week extension to next Friday, Oct. 31, to withdraw from an individual course with a “W.”
In a message to the MSU community, Keisha Campbell, the university registrar and executive director of Enrollment Management and Student Success, said the outage affected services across campus, prompting the university to adjust the fall 2025 midterm and withdrawal deadlines.
Campbell said no exceptions will be made for either deadline. Students with accounts or advising holds must contact the appropriate office to resolve issues before the deadline.
The last day to request a total withdrawal from the semester is Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Faculty will have to post final grades for fall 2025 graduating seniors by Dec. 8 at 5 p.m., while grades for all continuing students must be submitted by Dec. 22 at 5 p.m.
The university also announced that priority registration for Spring 2026 and Winter 2026 courses will begin Monday at 12:01 a.m. Registration pins have been distributed to academic schools and colleges through their deans and chairpersons.
