The Morgan State Bears defeated the Central State Marauders 27-0 for their first win of the season during their Greek Day/Youth Hall of Fame game.
The Bears controlled all four quarters, keeping the Marauders scoreless while racking up 303 total yards and scoring on two of three red-zone opportunities.
Morgan State went up 6-0 after a 30-yard touchdown pass from starting quarterback Kobe Muasau to redshirt senior wide receiver Tyler Wilkins, followed by a failed extra point.
At the start of the second quarter, sophomore cornerback Joshua Narh returned a blocked punt for a touchdown, extending the Bears’ lead to 13-0.
With less than four minutes left in the first half, running back Jason Collins Jr. ran in a 7-yard touchdown, pushing the score to 20-0.
The Bears’ defense dominated the first half, holding the Marauders to just four first downs and less than 70 yards of total offense, while finishing the game with three turnovers.
“We were just holding to our standard,” said sophomore linebacker Dylan Davis. “All year we’ve been playing hard on defense.”
In the fourth quarter, with five minutes remaining, senior cornerback Jadon Carter intercepted Marauders junior quarterback Chris Cotton.
The Bears capitalized on the next drive with a 1-yard rushing touchdown by redshirt freshman running back Randall Nauden, sealing the game at 27-0.
Despite the loss, the Marauders allowed only one touchdown in the second half. Collins Jr. led the Bears’ offense with 68 rushing yards, while Muasau went 15-for-22 with 156 passing yards.
Senior linebacker Erick Hunter had another standout performance with eight tackles, half a sack, and two tackles for loss; Carter added four tackles and 1.5 sacks.
The Bears will travel to Indiana to face Miles College in the Circle City Classic on September 27, with kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m.
