Famed African American writer Ta-Nehisi Coates is scheduled to speak in the Gilliam Concert Hall at the Carl J. Murphy Fine Arts Center at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Coates, a Baltimore native who teaches English at Howard University, won the National Book Award for his 2015 book “Between The World and Me.”
He is expected to address issues raised from his most recent book, “The Message,” a critically acclaimed series of essays related to his visits to South Carolina, Senegal and occupied Palestine.
Besides “The Message,” Coates, a contributing writer at “Vanity Fair,” has also written “The Water Dance,” as well as multiple issues of graphic novels “Black Panther,” “Black Panther and the Crew” and “Captain America” for Marvel Comics.
Coates’ visit is being jointly sponsored by Morgan State University’s Program for the Study of the Middle East & North Africa and Johns Hopkins University’s Chloe Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. for the event, which is free to the public. Follow this link for more information.
