A man and a boy went to the hospital after their dirt bikes collided just outside of Morgan State University’s campus Saturday night.

The boy, 16 years old, is in critical condition while the man, 30 years old, is in stable condition. First responders transported both of them to Johns Hopkins Hospital for treatment.

According to Lindsey Eldridge, director of public affairs and community outreach with the Baltimore Police Department, officers from the Northeast District responded to a vehicle accident in the 4200 block of Hillen Road — just steps away from the Legacy Bridge — and found a 16-year-old boy and a 30-year-old man with life-threatening injuries. The accident occurred around 9 p.m. while much of Morgan’s community celebrated the university’s homecoming victory against Lincoln University.

Eldridge said both individuals were driving the dirt bikes when they crashed. Neither injured person was affiliated with the university. The Baltimore Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit (AIU) is investigating the case due to the severity of the injuries sustained.

Morgan President David Wilson released a statement to the university regarding the incident.

“… Illegal dirt bike riders — unaffiliated with Morgan — engaged in reckless behavior … leading to a serious traffic accident,” wrote Wilson.

Wilson also said the events were “deeply disappointing” but have “no connection to our university other than their proximity.”

Morgan’s campus had closed at 7 p.m. on Saturday, which concluded all official homecoming activities that day. However, according to WBAL reports, there were 30 to 50 dirt bikes in the area that evening.

Wilson said he is in contact with Mayor Brandon Scott and the BPD.
