As the Student Government Association’s anxiously awaited election season draws to a close, Morgan State University’s annual Mister and Miss Morgan State University Pageant marked a sort of climax for the candidates’ campaigns. After a full week of campaigning and months of preparation, it all comes down to this week.
The pageant featured appearances from Brooke Foyles, current SGA president, Kayla Clark, her coinciding vice president, Joi Jones, executive chair of the Campus Activities Board, Ehidiame Akojie, the 35th Mister Morgan State University and Jade Berryman, the 79th Miss Morgan State University (who completed her last walk at the event).
Candidates for various other royal court and SGA positions also attended, including the three administrations currently campaigning for the positions of SGA president and vice president for the upcoming academic year. Each candidate had the opportunity to make their final remarks to the student body in a last effort to secure votes. Those vying to become the next Mister and Miss Morgan State University were given the opportunity to showcase talents in a traditional pageant-style portion of the evening.
Who will take home the crown? Candidates for the 80th Miss Morgan State University are:
- Assata Allah-Shabazz
- Yasmine Bryant
- Kiera Payne
- Dariyah Pennix
Candidates for the 37th Mister Morgan State University are:
- Xavier Johnson
- Xavier Washington
- Tyler Mitchell
The portal for students to cast their votes opened on Tuesday immediately after the pageant and will close Friday at 9 a.m.
All winners will be revealed on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the school’s Hill Field House.
