While you were at home for the break, Morgan State University has had some notable changes. Here are some developments if you haven’t been keeping up.
Morgan acquired part of Elijah Cummings’ Estate
- Morgan State University acquired a significant portion of the late House representative and civil rights leader Elijah Cummings’ personal belongings. The rare collection contains hundreds of mementos such as photographs, letters and speeches. The items will be held in the Beulah M. Davis Research Room at Earl S. Richardson Library along with the university’s archives, rare books and manuscripts.
The University Bookstore relocated to Northwood Commons
- The university bookstore has made its move to Northwood Commons, a big change from its former home in the University Student Center. The move, which has been years in the making, has brought attractive upgrades including an in-store Starbucks and seating area for students. The plans for the previous space in the Student Center are not yet finalized.
The Bears survived pre-season matchups
- Both the school’s men’s and women’s basketball teams have faced some significant challenges before the start of the regular season. The men’s team could not secure a win, despite their best efforts. Kamron Hobbs, men’s basketball guard, topped the scoring chart with 22 points. The women’s team managed to secure two hard-fought victories, which will undoubtedly boost their confidence as they head into the regular season. In their latest games against Delaware State University, Sedayjha Payne, guard, and Laila Fair, forward, led the women’s scoring with 14 points each.
