Four teenage boys drove and crashed a stolen vehicle at the bus stop behind Earl S. Richardson Library Tuesday, just outside of Morgan State University’s campus, police said.
According to a Baltimore City Police report, a Baltimore City police officer noticed four Black teenagers driving a red 2017 Hyundai on Loch Raven Boulevard at approximately 6:47pm. Police said the vehicle had two separate tags, one visible and the other, paper and obscured.
Police said an officer followed the car to check its license plates but the vehicle’s driver turned suddenly in an attempt to evade police scrutiny. The suspects then lost control of the vehicle and crashed into several parked cars before hitting a nearby light pole.
The suspects all fled the scene following the crash and police later identified and arrested them while canvassing the area. All of the suspects involved were minors, ages 17, 16, 15, and 14. Police contacted all of their parents that evening and held them at a juvenile facility.
Police said no one was injured but the crash damaged several vehicles at the scene.
According to Larry Jones, assistant vice president in Morgan’s Office of Public Relations and Strategic Communications, the stolen vehicle did not originate from Morgan’s campus and none of the suspects were associated with the university.
Neither Morgan’s students nor staff were in danger at any time, said Jones.
