After an unsuccessful 2012 season the Bears look to turn a new leaf this year, but unfortunately this is easier said than done. The football team is still winless after their fourth loss on Saturday, September 28 to the Norfolk State Spartans. The Bears and the opposing team looked to finally find the win column, both teams came into the game without a win. The Bears and the Spartans had a slow start, but Morgan State quarterback Seth Higgins leaped over the pile into the end zone for a one yard touchdown at the end of the first quarter, giving the Bears a nice 7-0 lead. With many turnovers and penalties throughout the game and after another unsuccessful defensive stop by the Bears, the Spartans drove down the field and tied up the game with a four yard touchdown pass and a field goal that put the Spartans up 10-7 at the half. Not pleased with their first half performance, the Bears were looking to come back out after the half and and jump start their offense, but the Spartans came back out. They darted down the field with a nine play possession. Receiver Keith Johnson caught a short pass and scored with the extra point, giving the Spartans an even more comfortable 17-7 lead. After another Norfolk field goal, the Bears found themselves down 20-7 in the beginning of the fourth quarter. But the Bears did not give up, as the appeared a little more awake in the fourth quarter and finally scoring again with an eight yard rush by quarterback Seth Higgins. But with one final Norfolk touchdown by running back Brendan Riddick, the Bears fell to 0-5. Overall the Bears showed much potential, but were a little out of sync. They look to get their first win at one of the biggest stages off their year against The FAMU Rattlers on Homecoming on Saturday October 5th at Hughes stadium at 1:00pm.
